This workshop will empower educators to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that fosters a sense of belonging through the principles of UDL. Workshop topics will include understanding UDL, its impact on belonging, and the importance of developing reflective processes to ensure our practices meet the needs of neurotypical and neurodivergent students. Participants will explore tools and best practices for meeting the diverse needs of their students while promoting engagement, motivation, and academic success. They will leave ready to implement UDL-aligned practices that create a culture of belonging within their own classrooms and in their wider school communities.
Participants will:
- Gain a better understanding of the range of access barriers facing neurodivergent students and how UDL can be leveraged to address them.
- Explore belonging as it pertains to school communities, especially in the context of neurodiverse classrooms, and identify strategies for fostering cultures of belonging.
- Add new resources, practices, and tools to their existing UDL-oriented tool boxes.
This workshop can be taken on it’s own or as part of the 3-credit graduate course Implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in Neuro-Shared Spaces.
