Vermont schools know they are required to have an Educational Support Team (EST), but the requirement alone does not ensure that ESTs function effectively. Schools may have different understandings of the purpose of EST, who should participate, how decisions should be made, what evidence should guide intervention planning, and how teams can maintain effective practices over time. This workshop will focus on the key systems and processes necessary for ensuring the establishment and maintenance of effective EST collaboration.

Participants will:

  • Understand the role of an EST within a broader MTSS framework.
  • Align procedures and practices with a shared vision of the purpose of an EST.
  • Delineate the roles and responsibilities of each EST team member and the relational practices needed to maintain successful collaboration.
  • Identify effective systems for documenting the evidence used to intensify layers of intervention within EST plans, using both diagnostic and progress monitoring data.
  • Create an intentional schedule and protocols for EST meetings to ensure efficiency.
