Intended Audience:
Special educators and special education administrators.
Topics to be addressed include special education evaluations and eligibility decisions; IEPs and the provision of Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE); and documentation relating to both Evaluation and Planning Team and IEP Team processes and Local Education Agency (LEA) decisions made in the absence of Team consensus.
Participants will:
- Gain awareness of recent court decisions and their impact on special education practices.
- Understand the substantive FAPE standard as set forth in the landmark Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District case law and learn how to use this standard to create strong IEPs, as well as monitor student progress to ensure educational benefit.
- Develop the knowledge and confidence to make LEA decisions in the absence of team consensus and to appropriately document those decisions.
- Acquire an in-depth understanding of recent special education rule changes and current pressing issues, equipping participants to effectively navigate and address these developments in their practice.
