Intended Audience:
This is part of a sequence of courses in the Special Educator Initial Licensure or Endorsement Program. It is designed to meet the competencies for licensure as a special educator in Vermont.

This course prepares special educators to design and implement effective mathematics instruction for students with learning disabilities. Building on research in cognition, numeracy development, and special education, participants will learn how to use formative assessment, CRA (Concrete-Representational-Abstract) instructional sequences, and evidence-based strategies to support student growth. Emphasis will be placed on access and equity, reducing math anxiety, and connecting high-leverage math concepts to the Vermont Core Teaching Standards and the Vermont Special Educator Standards.
