Over the past twenty years, there have been monumental breakthroughs in dyslexia research. This new and cutting edge research reveals that we didn’t have a clear understanding of the cognitive processes occurring in the brain. By measuring and mapping brain activity when students read, we now understand how the brain processes language and print. We now know there are a vast range of strengths that people with dyslexia portray, including social-emotional assets. If we pair these findings with evidence-based effective teaching approaches, there is potential for greatly improved learning environments for highly capable neurodivergent developing readers.

Webinar #1 – Dyslexia 101

This webinar will provide participants with a foundational knowledge on the following aspects of dyslexia:

  • Impact on language, literacy development, learning, and self esteem
  • Brain structure and functioning
  • fMRI research findings
  • Early indicators
  • Assessment
  • Comorbidities

Webinar #2 – Dyslexia and Structured Literacy

This webinar will provide participants with a foundational knowledge of the research behind and the design of effective structured literacy programs.

Participants will learn:

  • Research-based elements of an effective and comprehensive structured literacy program.
  • How to effectively use assessment to determine an appropriate starting point for instruction for each student with dyslexia.
  • How to incorporate high-interest multisensory activities into literacy programs.

Webinar #3 – Dyslexia, Cognitive Efficiency, and Maximizing Strengths in the General Education Environment

This webinar will provide participants with key information and strategies to ensure students with dyslexia have the opportunity to learn and produce work at an efficient rate and at a complex level in the mainstream classroom.

Participants will learn:

  • Cognitive and emotional strengths individuals with dyslexia often portray and can use in the classroom.
  • Specific accommodations and modifications that promote access to learning and meaningful progress in the general education curriculum.
  • How to design curriculum and learning that is efficient and effective for students with dyslexia.

Webinar #4 – Dyslexia and Executive Function: Strategies to Maximize Learning and Progress

This webinar will provide participants with an understanding of and the interplay between the academic and emotional impacts of dyslexia, the use of executive functioning skills, and emotional wellbeing.

Participants will learn:

  • The executive functions necessary for reading and writing.
  • Strategies to remove barriers that reduce students’ cognitive demand when learning content and completing work.
  • How to effectively scaffold and structure curriculum to ensure students with dyslexia have clear paths to achievement.

Webinar #5 – Dyslexia Wrap-Up: All Strategies!

Participants will learn about and review effective strategies organized by professional task, including strategies and considerations when:

  • Evaluating students with dyslexic profiles
  • Writing students’ IEPs
  • Designing equitable learning environments
  • Designing inclusive curriculum with multiple points of access and opportunities for students to utilize their strengths
