Structured Teaching Moved to Newport

Chris Knippenberg & Kathryn Whitaker – For Students with ASD and Other Similar Learners

Comprehensive, effective programming for students with autism requires planning and supports that are used across the day. This three-day workshop is an intensive training for teams working with students with autism. Participants will learn to use a planning framework tool and software (included) to analyze and design appropriate physical and visual structure across the school day using the foundational principles of structured teaching. Discussion will also include designing comprehensive programs, short- and long-range planning for individuals with ASD, relevance and connection to the IEP, and instructional strategies.

Cost: $450 for 3-day workshop $600 for 3-day workshop & 1 credit course Time: 8:30-4:00

Dennis has been the Director of the the VT-HEC since it was founded in 2000. He spent 16 years at the VT-DOE as Director of teams with various names that included: special education, Title I, health and wellness and other family and education support services. Prior to that Dennis worked at the Barre Town School (VT) starting as a special educator and serving many years as the Director of Student Support Services. He also spent 6 years as a classroom teacher grades 5-8 in NJ.
