Description

Teaching Essential Topics in Sexual Health Education: Consent and Healthy Relationships

Andrea Nicoletta & Chani Waterhouse

This workshop offers participants an opportunity to explore and use the newly-released Essential Topics in Sexual Health Education in Vermont, developed by a group of sexual health education stakeholders from around Vermont. This resource helps educators to effectively prioritize their instruction time. It also identifies how to be inclusive of LGBTQ+ and youth with disabilities, as well as incorporate racial justice principles as part of essential sexual health education, as for example learning the history of pornography and why is so popular now a days.

This workshop focuses on how to support and educate students around consent and healthy relationships, including sexual violence prevention, communication skills, abusive behaviors, and the responsibilities adults have when teaching those topics.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Identify why the topic is considered essential,
  • Understand how to use best practices in their classrooms
