Strategies for Paraeducators who Support Students in Reading

This series of four mini-workshops is designed to support paraeducators who work with students using the reading workshop model of instruction.

Participants will:

  • Examine and understand best practices in reading workshop instruction that support students in their classrooms.
  • Understand ways to engage students with reading via read aloud, shared reading, book selection, improving stamina, and setting goals.
  • Understand strategies to support reading fluency.
  • Understand strategies to support reading comprehension for fiction and nonfiction.

 

Kathy Christy, M.Ed. has over 35 years of experience working in public schools as an elementary school teacher, literacy coach and professional development facilitator. She has a wealth of experience providing professional development in a variety of settings at school, district and collegiate levels. Kathy is passionate about supporting students and adults in their quest for excellence in literacy development and instruction.
