Description

From Intention to Action: Developing Independent Executive Function Skills in Learners

presented by Sarah Ward, MS, CCC/SLP

Executive function skills refer to brain functions that manage attention, emotions, and behavior in the pursuit of goals. Young children rely on these skills to follow a sequence of instructions for daily tasks, while older children need these skills to “break a task down” into a sequence of steps as the demands for independent learning increases. This practical workshop will provide strategies to teach learners to think in an organized way, control impulses, and manage emotions.

Participants will define how lagging executive function skills impact learners as they mature, as well as learn how to promote the development of executive function skills by weaving them naturally into everyday activities. In addition, participants will use existing class lessons and/or formulate plans using the Get Ready * Do * Done Methodology.
