Creating a Building-Based System for Continuous Professional Development

This workshop is designed to provide individuals and teams with inspiration and strategies to create a building-based embedded professional development (PD) system. Alicia and Kathy share a wealth of experience in regard to creating a successful system within a school that promotes continuous growth for students and staff.
This workshop is intended for teacher leaders and administrators as they prepare to collaboratively look ahead to the upcoming school year. Important topics, such as changes with Act 173, creating systems and tools for building-based embedded professional development, and designing for adult learning will be covered.
Kathy Christy, M.Ed. has over 35 years of experience working in public schools as an elementary school teacher, literacy coach and professional development facilitator. She has a wealth of experience providing professional development in a variety of settings at school, district and collegiate levels. Kathy is passionate about supporting students and adults in their quest for excellence in literacy development and instruction.
Alicia Lyford, M.Ed., is currently the Principal of East Montpelier Elementary School, where she has served for the past eleven years. Prior to that, she spent nine years as a Special Educator working with students in Grades K–8 in the Montpelier School District. She received her Master’s Degree through the Woodruff Institute at Castleton University, and is licensed as a Special Educator, Principal, Director of Special Education, and Superintendent.
