This workshop is designed to strengthen educators’ ability to monitor social-emotional development within an MTSS framework. Special attention will be given to assessing the impact of direct instruction in self-regulation, social cognition, and executive functioning. Participants will explore practical, efficient strategies for tracking growth in these essential functional skill areas and learn how to use this data to inform subsequent targeted interventions. Educators will leave with concrete tools and greater confidence in their ability to monitor and respond to student needs.

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with evidence-based, social-emotional assessment practices.
  • Differentiate behavioral indicators from core social CASEL competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making).
  • Learn tools and strategies for tracking progress in social emotional learning (SEL).
  • Use multiple data sources to assess functional skill progress at both regular intervals (e.g., every 6–8 weeks) and through daily formative check ins, and adjusting direct instruction based on the results.
  • Analyze SEL data trends to inform program-level decision-making for all learners within an MTSS framework.
