This workshop will support educators in implementing integrated, inquiry-driven instruction that strengthens students’ reading comprehension. Grounded in the Science of Reading, this approach emphasizes that all learners benefit from rich opportunities to build background knowledge, develop oral language, and expand vocabulary—key foundations for deep comprehension across subjects.

Teachers will explore how to connect literacy development with any content area, while aligning with existing curriculum and science, social studies, the arts, or other content standards. The workshop will also highlight practical strategies for making instruction responsive to students’ authentic interests, cultural identities, and lived experiences, fostering classrooms where students feel ownership, curiosity, and joy in their learning.

Participants will:

  • Explore inquiry-based instructional practices that strengthen vocabulary, language, and literacy development across all subjects.
  • Learn strategies to integrate literacy skills within any curriculum to support deeper comprehension and engagement.
  • Examine ways to design learning experiences that honor students’ identities, questions, and observations, promoting meaningful connections and inclusive learning environments.
