Special Education Licensing Program
The Special Education Licensing Program is a 24-credit sequence of coursework and practical experience designed to prepare the participant for a Vermont State special educator endorsement.
This 26-credit sequence of coursework may lead to a M.Ed/CAGS with a focus on behavioral and other strategies to prepare participants to work as case managers for individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
The VT-HEC is offering a training program for educators and mental health case managers who are interested in becoming a behavior specialist. Upon successful completion of the sequence of courses and supervised internship, applicants are eligible to sit for the national certification exam. This program overlaps with the Children's Mental Health Program.
Early Childhood Education and Special Education Program
The VT-HEC Early Childhood & Early Childhood Special Educators program is a multi-tiered set of programs leading to educator licensure. The EC/ECSE programs provide participants the option to continue beyond licensure to obtain a master's degree.
A series of courses have been developed to provide currently licensed educators the competencies needed to qualify for a Vermont health education endorsement. The content of the coursework addresses the essential competencies required by the state of Vermont. Upon completion of the series, qualified individuals may request transcript analysis by Vermont Department of Education, Educator Licensing Department. Licensure is not automatic. A preliminary review with M.J. Peters, coordinator of the health education program, will help determine the needs for requirements for each individual. Currently licensed and endorsed health educators are welcome to take courses for professional development or recertification credit.
